Permissions within a Course
Attached you can find a matrix regarding permissions within a course per role.
Please see below for a quick description per role and the purpose of each role in a course.
All roles are visible on the Classlist to people enrolled as Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Grader or Staff Observer, except for Staff Observer Light. This role is not visible on the Classlist.
Course Management Roles
These are roles with some of the management rights within a course.
Instructor
The richest role of them all: The full instructor.
Assistant Instructor
Second richest role. Full editing access, but limited access to highly sensitive data. Can grade students, but cannot publish final grades.
Course Builder
Only there to build up the course! No access to ANY user information.
Grader
No editing/ or creating rights. Can assess student and enter grades. Has no content management rights, nor can this role place announcements.
Tutor
Only able to assess students in own section or group, can only post messages in own discussion area, can only contact their own section/group per mail. Has no content management rights, nor can this role place announcements.
Course Participation Roles
Student
Full course participation rights. Can receive grades, hand in assignments and participate in discussions.
Student Observer
Can only read content that has been made available for them. Cannot hand in assignments, nor can they participate in discussions.
Staff Observer
Can read all content hidden and restricted for students. Has access to all student submissions and grades, but has no content management rights, nor can this role place announcements or send emails.
Staff Observer Light
Can read all content hidden and restricted for students. No access to ANY user information and has no content management rights, nor can he place announcements or send emails.
