About ReadSpeaker

ReadSpeaker is text-to-speech software integrated into Ans to support students in reading text during digital exams. ReadSpeaker converts written text into spoken audio, allowing students to have exam questions read aloud on their computer. Students can choose which parts of the text they want to have read aloud.

ReadSpeaker can be used as an assistive tool for students who are entitled to use text-to-speech software. We recommend enabling ReadSpeaker only for exams where students have access to headphones. This prevents noise disturbance in the examination room.

ReadSpeaker's DocReader is enabled for the entire organisation. This means that exam attachments in Word and PDF format can also be read aloud.

Please note: When ReadSpeaker is enabled, students cannot use the search function in their attachments.

Enabling ReadSpeaker

  1. Navigate to the exam.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Integrations.
  4. Find ReadSpeaker and click Enable.
  5. ReadSpeaker is now linked to the exam. You can find ReadSpeaker in the menu on the left under Integrations.

Managing ReadSpeaker settings

Click ReadSpeaker in the menu on the left under Integrations to open the settings.

  1. Under Language, select the language in which the text should be read aloud.
  2. Enable or disable the desired WebReader options.

See the Ans support page for an overview of all WebReader options and their functions.
