Schoolyear allows students to take exams securely. For practice tests, there is a setting that allows students to start Schoolyear at home without learning how to circumvent security mechanisms.
Click on the links below to go directly to a section:
It is important that this setting is only used for demo tests, and not for real tests!
What is Device Check?
The device check describes how a student can check whether it's laptop works properly in combination with Schoolyear.
When should you use Device Check?
Use this setting in the following situations:
- For demo or practice tests
- When students need to perform a device check to verify that Schoolyear is properly installed on their computer.
- When students need to take a practice test.
- Device Check is not used for actual exams.
Why is Device Check important?
- Students can start Schoolyear at home without learning how to circumvent security measures. This is because Schoolyear's fraud detection is disabled with this setting and is therefore not visible to students.
- Students do not need a Proctor Key to start the practice test.
How do you set up Device Check?
There are two ways to access the Schoolyear settings widget. First, you can access the settings via Ans. This is explained here.
The second option for accessing the settings is to log in directly via Schoolyear using this link. Click on the “All tests” tab at the top and then find the test for which you want to change the settings. When you click on your test, click on the “Edit test” button at the top right.
- Open the Schoolyear settingswidget
- Click on 'Advanced options'
- Search for the option ‘Fraud detection disabled’
- Switch it on
- Click on 'Save'
- Communicate to your students the following:
- They have to login via SSO.
- That they can only start the test 4 times per 7 days.
FAQ
- What happens if a student tries to participate more than 4 times?
Access will be denied. The limit resets automatically after 7 days.
- Can a demo test be open for the entire semester?
Yes, but keep in mind the 4 attempts per week limit.
- What if a student does not close the test correctly?
Closing the test incorrectly may limit restarts. Closing the test correctly prevents problems.
- Important
Students must use MFA (multi-factor authentication) to log in when this setting is enabled.
