How do I import my Turnitin Rubrics and QuickMarks

Preface

With the migration to our new learning management system Brightspace, most instructors will be receiving a new Turnitin account*.  This change is due to the fact that in Blackboard, instructors are registered with their uMail email address, but in Brightspace the faculty email address is used. Turnitin accounts are created based on the email address used to create a Turnitin assignment.  Since there is no easy way to merge these accounts or transfer personal Rubrics or Quickmarks, these will have to be exported and imported manually. This article will explain how to transfer your custom Rubrics and Quickmarks from your old Blackboard Turnitin account into your new Brightspace Turnitin account.

*This does not apply to instructors who use the same faculty email address in both Blackboard and Brightspace.  You will mostly likely have have the same account in both Blackboard and Turnitin, but check to make sure!

Exporting Rubrics

In Blackboard, access one of your courses that has a Turnitin assignment and go to Course Management > Course Tools > Turnitin Assignments. Select one of the listed assignments and select the Libraries tab. Select Rubric/Form Manager, click the list-button and select the rubric you want to export. Now click the box/arrow icon in the upper right corner of this window and select “Export…”. Your rubric will now be downloaded to your computer.

Exporting Quickmarks

In Blackboard, access one of your own courses that has a Turnitin assignment and go to Course Management > Course Tools > Turnitin Assignments. Select one of the listed assignments and select the Libraries tab. Select QuickMark Manager and select the QuickMark set you want to export. Now click the box/arrow icon in the upper right corner of this window and select “Export Set…”. Your QuickMark set will now be downloaded to your computer.

The next section will explain how to import rubrics and QuickMarks into your new Turnitin account. For these steps you will need a course offering with a Brightspace assignment with Turnitin enabled and a submission in this assignment. See this article on how to create a Turnitin enabled Brightspace assignment.

Importing Rubrics

Importing rubrics into your new account is done in Feedback Studio through a Brightspace assignment with Turnitin enabled.

In your course offering, go to Course Tools > Assignments and select the assignment that has Turnitin enabled and has a submission. Go to the Submissions tab and click on the pencil icon in the Turnitin GradeMark column. This will open Feedback Studio.

In Feedback Studio, click on the Rubric/Form icon and then on the gear icon (Manage rubrics and grading forms). In the Rubric/Form overview, click on the hamburger button (upper left corner) and select Upload Rubric/Grading Form. Now either “Drag and drop” or select the “Or browse” option and  select your rubric/gradeform file (the file should have the .rbc extension). Your rubric should now be available for use in Turnitin assignments.
