This article discusses access codes. From 1 September 2026 onwards, all newly created time slots for digital tests will have an access code by default. This code provides additional control over who has access to a digital assessment. Click on the links below to go directly to a specific section:
What are access codes?
An access code is a code that participants must enter before they can start a digital test. The access code is configured at timeslot level, meaning that each timeslot can have its own access code. This allows access to a digital test to be managed separately for each timeslot.
You can find the access code on the delivery page of the specific timeslot. You can also remove or change the access code there, if necessary.
When are access codes generated?
From 1 September 2026, all newly created digital test timeslots automatically receive an access code.
Existing timeslots created before 1 September 2026 are not automatically changed.
By default, the access code is enabled. Participants therefore need to enter the access code before they can start the test. Do you not want to use an access code? Disable the access code before participants start the test. This allows participants to access the test without entering a code.
How do I disable an access code?
You can disable the access code for a timeslot if you do not want participants to enter a code. This can be done at any time.
Click 'Stop requiring access code' to remove the access code:
The access code can also be disabled after the timeslot has already started. This can be useful if participants experience problems accessing the test with the access code.
How do I change an access code?
If you use an access code, you can change it in two ways if necessary:
Method 1: Click 'Renew access code'. A new access code will be generated.
Method 2: Click on the access code. You can now manually enter an access code consisting of six letters or numbers. After entering the code, click 'Save' to save it.
Please note: If an access code is enabled after participants have already started the test, those participants can continue without having to enter the code. New participants, or participants continuing on another device or in another browser session, will be required to enter the access code.
