As of August 1, 2025, Kaltura Liveroom (sometimes known as Newrow, hereafter KLR) will no longer be available as a video conferencing application. However, Kaltura as a video portal (video.leidenuniv.nl) will remain available. This means that all recordings of KLR sessions will continue to be available on Kaltura after August 1.
Why is Kaltura Live Room ending?
After a tender process, Leiden University (including LUMC) has chosen Zoom as its new video conferencing software for education. This means that as of August 1, 2025, Kaltura Liveroom will no longer be accessible to faculty and students. From academic year 2025-2026, Zoom will be the designated video conferencing application for education at Leiden University. For more information on using Zoom, please see here: Zoom | Video tools
Is it safe to use Zoom?
There have been concerns about data security at Zoom. In collaboration with SURF, Zoom has made important changes. SURF's latest privacy check confirms that Zoom is suitable for use with confidential information in (medical) education.
For support on setting additional security measures, see the article “How do I change my meeting's security settings in advance?”
What will happen to the documents in KLR?
Any documents saved in KLR (e.g., PowerPoint presentations and quizzes) will no longer be accessible after August 1. However, videos (such as meeting recordings) will remain available on the Kaltura video platform.
Do you still have documents in KLR and want to save or reuse them? You can download and save them from within Kaltura. Instructions for this can be found in the article “How do I download my files from the Kaltura Live Room?”
